Categories of Facial Peels

 Categories of Facial Peels

Facial peels are divided into three main categories;

1. Superficial/light facial peel; this facial peel consists of the application of mild chemical acids to treat problems such as pigmentary changes, fine wrinkling, sun damaged/photo-aged skin or mild scarring. Often used is a low concentration of glycolic or salicylic acid - or another member of this acid group.

Light facial skin peeling is generally safe, effective, and inexpensive. It produces excellent results and enjoys wide patient acceptance. There are usually no significant complications.

2. Medium depth facial peel; this peel comprises of acids such as trichloracetic acid (TCA,) and is commonly used for photoaged skin, warts, and wrinkles. moreover, TCA peels can also remove tattoos over time. Naturally, medium peels will produce improved results over superficial or light peels, but don't expose you to the increased risk of complications associated with deeper peels.

3, Deep facial peel; this chemical skin peeling is usually performed with the more aggressive and toxic chemical such as phenol. Deep chemical peels are used for more severe abnormalities of the skin. They're much more extensive in their procedure and require thorough patient screening and evaluation, as well as intensive training on the part of the physician performing it.

The Benefits of Chemical Skin Peeling

 The Benefits of Chemical Skin Peeling

Chemical skin peeling, or 'chemexfoliation,' is a common dermatological procedure and is most commonly applied to sun damaged/photo-aged skin, hyper-pigmentation, freckles, blemishes, superficial growths, fine to moderate facial lines, as well as to deeper wrinkles. It consists of the application of a chemical agent that destroys the superficial layers of the skin - resulting in the peeling and removal of those outer skin layers.

The chemicals most common to use for chemical skin peels are;

1. Glycolic acid
2. Lactic acid
3. Salicylic acid
4. Resorcinol
5. Betanaphthol
6. Trichloracetic or bichloracetic acid
7. Phenol

The benefits of chemical peeling are many and besides the obvious physical improvement of the skin, increased feelings of self-esteem and self-worth are among them. Moreover, the procedure's increasing popularity and acceptance indicates that patients often consider the benefits greater than the risks involved - which are minimal if the procedure is properly performed.

The use of chemical peels to improve the condition and appearance of the skin goes back to ancient times. However, dermatologists have been pioneers in modern chemexfoliation and substantial progress has been made in understanding both the nature of the skin and the variations of skin peeling treatments.

Chemical skin peeling is not only a effective way of rejuvenating the skin and increasing collagen production in the dermal layer of the skin, but an effective treatment for the removal of a number of skin abnormalities. It's increasingly believed that skin peels may prevent the development of skin cancer and precancerous growths are destroyed in the chemical skin peeling process.

No one doubts the value of chemical skin peeling for prematurely aged skin that exhibits lines, wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation. It's also appreciated that the benefits are long-lasting. The long-lasting results seem to be due to formation of new structures in the basal layer in of the epidermis and superficial layer of the dermis. Chemical skin peeling can also be applied to the hands, feet and chest areas.

However, chemical skin peeling is no miraculous procedure, and those with fine, delicate lines and wrinkles will obtain the best results, while those with deep lines related to the underlying muscles of facial expression will receive very limited benefit (botox is suitable for that.) Neither is chemical skin peeling effective in severe burn scars or keloid scarring that involve the deeper layers of skin..

Acne and Diet (According to Dermatology)

Acne and Diet (According to Dermatologists)

Experience has shown that the following influences sometimes cause exacerbations in certain cases of acne;

1. Cosmetic face creams and cosmetic lotions, including so-called skin foods, skin tonics, lubricant creams and vanishing creams; also heavy pancake make-ups.

2. Rough or woolen garments, furs etc, next to the skin.

3. Contact with oils, tars, chlorine and fluorine.

4. Chocolate.

5. Iodized salt. In areas like New York City and in other places where the air, food and water contain more than sufficient iodine, iodized salt not only is unnecessary but may sometimes produce or aggravate acne and other dermatoses.

6 Shellfish and salt water fish.

7. Sharp cheeses.

8. Nuts.

9. Pork and pork products.

10. All medications containing iodine or iodides.

11. All medications containing bromides.

12. Sedative drugs. Even aspirin and barbiturates sometimes make acne worse or cause new eruptions.

However, according to dermatology, none of these substances is the cause of acne vulgaris. Many acne patients can be exposed to any or all of them without the slightest negative effect. Many patients can pig out on chocolate, for example, or continually use iodized salt and not be harmed. But others with apparently identical clinical features continue to have exacerbations and resist treatment until the chocolate, iodized salt or other such item is eliminated.

In addition, according to dermatologists, there's no evidence of a general disturbance of fat or carbohydrate metabolism in acne vulgaris. On the contrary, all modern studies indicate the lack of any such systemic disturbance. Therefore, the undoubted benefits which are sometimes obtained through reducing fat and sugar intake may perhaps be due to the coincidental elimination of some particular harmful articles of food.

Therefore, chocolate will as a rule be eliminated when sweets are and most pork products will be avoided by the patient on a low fat diet. Based on these premises, it's believed that the general all-inclusive radical reductions in fat and carbohydrate intake are unnecessary and even contraindicated in acne patients with normal weight.

Retin-A (Tretinoin) for Sun-Damaged Aged Skin

Retin-A (Tretinoin) for Sun-Damaged Aged Skin

Does Retin-A/Tretinoin cream or lotion really work for getting rid of lines, wrinkles and sun-damage? The answer is a resounding "YES!"

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that topical tretinoin/Retin-A, a vitamin-A derivative used for the treatment of common acne, can make a significant improvement in aging skin.

**Interestingly the singer/actress Cher credits the daily application of Retin-A cream for her lack of crows feet around the eyes, as well as extremely youthful-looking skin.

The 16-week study conducted by John J. Voorhees, M.D. of the University
of Michigan Medical Center and his colleagues, was a randomized, double-blind study of topical tretinoin in the treatment of photo-aging. This means that that neither patients or the dermatologists knew which cream contained Retin-A and which was plain, until the Retin-A began to work.

The 30 patients tested had skin samples
taken and analyzed. The before and after pictures showed a dramatic change over time. Fourteen of the 15 patients who received tretinoin to the face had improvement in photoaging, whereas none of the plain cream treated patient's faces improved.

Controlled clinical studies have proven that photo-damaged (sun-damaged) skin responds favorably to Retin-A. Retin-A stimulates the skin to step up cell production and promotes the development of the underlying layers of the skin.

With tretinoin, new skin cells push toward the surface and this clears the skin of dead cells and other debris. There's a fading of age spots, and a stimulation of collagen production. At the same time there's an increase in the amount of blood circulating to the skin, and the skin has a healthier appearance. Cell growth becomes more even.

Physicians always have closely observed the effects of tretinoin on the skin. The drug (available by prescription only) begins to work almost immediately following application. Within a week changes begin to occur. The activity goes on for some weeks before patients can actually see the changes. There's also cheaper generic brands of Retin-A which work just as well.

Within a month or two, the skin takes on a rosy glow and becomes less wrinkled. It has more elasticity, less blotching and has better color. Researchers believe Retin-A may be used as a
preventive measure to retard and decelerate photo-aging; thus, tretinoin is ideal as a part of a woman's daily skin care regime (it is a part of mine!)

Things to Ask your Cosmetic Surgeon Before Cosmetic Surgery and Procedures

Things to Ask your Cosmetic Surgeon Before Cosmetic Surgery and

Some women choose to have cosmetic surgery procedures to improve their physical appearance and self-esteem (and there's nothing wrong with that!) However, the decision to have a cosmetic surgery procedure shouldn't be made lightly. And if you're personally considering having a cosmetic surgery procedure done, do make sure to ask your cosmetic surgeon the following questions;

• How is the procedure done?

• Am I good candidate for the procedure?

• How does my health history affect my risk of problems?

• What results and side effects can I expect?

• What are the risks?

• When can I restart normal activities?

• How much will the procedure cost? (Cosmetic procedures usually aren't covered by medical insurance.)

And last, but not least..... What is your training and experience?

Good luck!

Why Women Should Choose Natural Foods and a RAW Food Diet

Why Women Should Choose Natural Foods and a RAW Food Diet

Natural foods, and at least a 70% raw food diet is the optimal diet for women. and in combination with fresh air, enough sunshine, exercise, proper relaxation and breathing, will promote and maintain optimal health. Moreover,wholesome, natural and un-cooked foods help to build up and restore youthful vitality, beauty, strength, endurance and resistance.

In addition, organic and un-cooked fruits, vegetables and herbs can't produce disease in the body because they contain no toxins, in-organic chemicals/salts,or harmful trans-fats that saturate the blood. However, processed food, as well as animal products can affect a woman's health adversely, as they produce toxic elements and decay in the stomach.

Nuts and seeds are safe though, as they don't clog and ferment in the stomach like meat and processed food does. And just like fruits, vegetables and herbs, their organic salts are fully absorbed by the body and their cellulose content stimulates normal peristalsis (intestinal activity.)

Eating a 100% raw food diet, as well as wholly natural foods, can not only prevent and cure diseases, but often wakes up dormant chronic diseases and turn them into an active 'healing crisis' - in order to defeat and expel the disease. Whenever this happens, you shouldn't worry or give up, but simply help it along (by adhering to the new and improved diet and lifestyle.

In addition, the CURES brought along by a dramatic change and improvement in diet and lifestyle are many (and have been recorded by many!) And it certainly can be seen as miraculous what an inner cleanse and detox, as well as healthy living can do for a woman in terms of rejuvenation!

Moreover, all natural foods should be relished by the palate as it all comes directly from the hand of nature.
Why don't you commit yourself from today to eat natural foods and a predominantly RAW food diet? Good nutrition will definitely maintain and increase your physical beauty, stamina and health!

However, you may have to do all that you can to avoid any un-natural and processed foods which addict you and your tongue to artificial flavors and chemically altered consistencies.
Moreover, don't rely on the likes and dislikes of your perverted sense of taste, caused by food additives such as mono-sodium glutomate (msg) and other harmful additives, or blame the natural foods when it stirs up the toxins in your system - in order to eliminate them.
